De Hoop Nature Reserve is one of the largest coastal reserves in the Western Cape, stretching from the Potberg mountains down to a protected marine coastline near Bredasdorp in the Overberg. It is known for its fynbos, the De Hoop Vlei wetland, resident eland and bontebok, the Cape vulture colony at Potberg, and southern right whales that gather offshore in season. The reserve carries a network of hiking, mountain-biking, trail-running and walking routes, including sections of the renowned multi-day Whale Trail along the coast.
