Terms of service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Trailblaze app, website and the maps you buy through them (the “Services”). By using the Services you agree to these Terms.
The maps
Trailblaze Maps sells access to digital, offline trail maps. You do not own the maps or their data. When you buy a map you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and time-limited licence to download and use it within the Trailblaze app on your own devices for your personal, non-commercial use. This licence lasts for 12 months from the date of purchase (see “Updates and validity” below), after which it ends.
Updates and validity
A purchased map is valid for 1 year (12 months) from the date of purchase. During that period you may download the map to your devices and receive any trail updates we release for it. After the 12 months the map is no longer available for download or updates, and you will not have continued access to it through your account. To carry on using the map you would need to buy it again. Free maps do not expire and remain available to download at no charge.
If a map’s price changes
A map may move between free and paid over time. If a free map later becomes paid, any copy you already downloaded while it was free remains available to you, but from that point new downloads and updates require a purchase. If a paid map later becomes free, anyone who has already bought it keeps their access and no refund is given for the earlier purchase; the map is then available free to everyone.
Other products (PDF maps and data sets)
As well as in-app maps, we may sell printable PDF maps and GIS data sets. These are delivered as downloadable files rather than within the Trailblaze app, and the following terms apply to them:
- The access period, updates and any licence term for these products are as stated on the product at the time of purchase. Where no period is stated, a PDF map you have downloaded is licensed to you to keep.
- PDF maps are licensed for your personal, non-commercial use.
- GIS data sets are supplied under a separate commercial licence agreed with us. If you would like to use our data, please contact us to arrange a licence, pricing and updates.
- You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense or publicly share these files or data, and all intellectual property in them remains ours or our licensors’.
The rest of these Terms — including payments, safety, disclaimers and liability — apply to these products as well.
Offline use
Maps are designed to work offline once downloaded. An internet connection is needed to browse, buy, download and update maps, and for online features such as live location search.
Safety
The maps are provided as a navigation aid only. Trails and conditions change, and GPS accuracy varies. You are responsible for your own safety, for carrying appropriate equipment, and for checking conditions before and during any activity. Do not rely on the app as your only means of navigation or emergency communication.
Payments
Prices are shown in South African Rand. Trailblaze Maps is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added to the price. Payments are processed securely by PayFast. Placing an order does not complete your purchase until payment is confirmed.
Acceptable use
You may not copy, resell, redistribute, sublicense or publicly share the maps, or attempt to extract, reverse engineer or circumvent the app’s protections.
Intellectual property
All maps, data, imagery, trademarks and content in the Services are owned by Trailblaze Maps or its licensors and are protected by law. Your licence does not transfer any ownership to you, and it does not survive the 12-month validity period.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is”, and Trailblaze Maps is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the maps.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
